Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Unit, with support from the section leaders. There is wider scope for activities like offshore sailing, campaigning, parascending, mountaineering in this section.

How it all works

Explorers are aged between fourteen and eighteen. A group of Explorers is called a Unit, sometimes a Unit will be split up into smaller groups called Patrol, usually led by a Patrol Leader.

The Promise and Law

When being invested into the Unit the Explorer will make the Scout promise. Scouting is open to people of all faiths as well as people who are humanist, atheist or have no affirmed faith, therefore there are different variations of the promise which can be taken to ensure that members feel able to keep to the promise they make.

To see all the different versions of the promise that members can make, please see our Promise page.

Scout Law

  1. A Scout is to be trusted.
  2. A Scout is loyal.

  5. A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
  6. A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
  7. A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.
