Young Leader Scheme

A Young Leader is anyone who is aged between 14 and 18 that attends another section such as Beavers, Cubs or Scouts to volunteer alongside adult leaders, this includes anyone attending through outside organisations such as Duke of Edinburgh award and Girl Guiding.
The Young Leaders Scheme supports Young Leaders in key areas to help them get the most out of working with younger sections. The scheme also helps Explorer Scouts develop, enabling them to fulfil the service elements of various awards and to make a positive impact in your local community. There are a total of 10 models and 4 mission to which can be optionally completed. Once all of these have been completed the Young Leader will be awarded with the Young Leader Belt Buckle. All young leaders MUST attend a Module A training course within the first three of starting as a young leader. This covers all things from what you role as a young leaders is to safeguarding and Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR).

Young Leaders can come from a variety of backgrounds. They can be:

  • Former Scouts, who have turned 14 and been invested as Explorer Scouts.
  • Participants in external programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or members of other organisations like Girlguiding UK.
  • Young people who have joined the Explorer Scout section and chosen to participate in the Young Leaders’ Scheme as part of the section programme.
